Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A popular snow-themed attraction on the sixth floor of Axis Mall in Newtown is under fire after serious structural safety concerns came to light. The Snow Park, a favorite spot during the scorching Kolkata summer, is now at the center of a potential disaster due to alleged negligence in construction protocols and ongoing maintenance.
Experts argue that such heavy snow-themed setups should be installed only on the ground floor due to the intense use of water, chemicals, and refrigeration systems. However, in this case, the entire facility was inexplicably built on the sixth floor—an architectural decision that has now led to water seepage, cracks in the walls, weakened beams, and dilapidated pillars on the fifth floor below.
Eyewitness images reveal chemical-laced water dripping from the ceiling of the fifth floor, weakening the mall’s internal structures. Concerned visitors have begun to question how a public place frequented by thousands daily can be allowed to deteriorate to this level without intervention.
Sources inside the mall claim that repeated complaints have been filed with the New Town Development Authority (NKDA), and legal proceedings have also begun. Yet, there has been no visible action or temporary shutdown of the Snow Park despite the growing danger.
Locals are now pointing fingers at administrative bodies. “Is the administration waiting for another disaster like Rituraj, where 15 people lost their lives?” asked one local visitor. Many suspect a larger nexus of corruption or negligence behind the inaction, despite clear signs of structural failure.
